Day 16 of 40 Days of Grace – Creature Comfort
Day 16 – From the Creator to the creation. Sometimes a glimpse of God’s grace comes in the form of something as simple as a pet. Eight years ago around Valentine’s Day, we adopted a little gray tabby from an animal rescue. You see, I was very lonesome, going from having homeschooled three kids down to having them all out of the nest. Where once there was busyness and noise, hugs, and laughter, there was then only quiet.
There’s a difference between running the radio or TV and having a living, sentient being to keep you company. Oh, the cat, Lilybits, can be demanding, asking me to prove I’m worthy of her love over and over again. However, for the little bit of attention and food she asks for, she returns in napping sessions on my lap, snuggling us at night, asking to be petted, or just staying nearby. Sometimes she gives purrs in return or sandpaper-tongue kisses on my hand while I’m trying to type or on my face, when she wants to wake me up in the middle of the night.
Don’t get me wrong, I get out and see people, attend Bible study, and meet with friends, but it is lonely to come home to an empty house during the long days. To be able to love on a little animal who needed a home and shown affection by the above-mentioned cat is a blessing every day.
