Day 36 – Grace in a Verse
Verse of the Day
Psalm 34:18 – The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
In the New Living Translation this verse gives unabashed hope to the brokenhearted. God is near . . . He will rescue. In the King James version and others this is translated He is “nigh to those of a broken spirit” and that He is “saveth those of a contrite spirit.”
We discipline our own children, not the neighbor’s and we want to hear more about how our children are doing. That takes a sense of dependence on the parent, the way a little child depends on her mother or father. She comes to them when she’s thirsty, hungry, or needs a hug.
Our heavenly Father draws near to those Who need Him, whose faith like a little child accepts the substitutionary death of His Son, Jesus Christ, who know they need to have faith and hope in Him.
As His child I can go to God freely, knowing there’s a place on His lap for me, always a place in His arms. Sometimes it’s a time of hurting after discipline, sometimes it’s after confessing sin and asking for His help to do right, sometimes it’s just a plain broken heart when I’ve been hurt by others or grieving what I can’t change. Always, He will draw near His children Who know how great their need is for Him.
Do you need Jesus Christ today?
