How Author Colleen Scott Promotes the Value of Life Through her Novels

In Author, Books, Let's Chat, Writing

I’m pleased to introduce author, Colleen Scott, to my readers this week. She is a fellow client of our agent, Linda S. Glaz and writer of contemporary Christian romantic suspense. Let’s learn more about Colleen and her work together!

Welcome, Colleen, please tell us about your writing journey. How did it start?

Hi Kathy, thank you so much for inviting me to your blog. Believe it or not, my writing journey started in the second grade. The teacher would have us write a story using all of the assigned weekly spelling words. That assignment was the favorite part of my week.

I’ve always dreamt of having a novel published. I’ve been writing seriously for around twelve years. Misconceptions is the third novel that I’ve written, but the first one to be published.

My third-grade teacher wrote on one of my assignments that I was a good writer, which encouraged me. Whatever I wrote that day I enjoyed it, so I understand what you mean.

What made you decide to write inspirational fiction? And more specifically romantic suspense?

I have always loved reading fiction. There are so many hurting people out there, and I believe that ministering to them through story is a unique way to reach them. Sometimes it’s easier for a reader to identify with a character, and see how the Lord works things out throughout the novel. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre to read, so I enjoy writing them as well.

I agree, stories can reach people in a unique way and can help bring a new perspective and even healing.

How has God guided you through this process?

My writing journey has been filled with a lot of triumphs and heartaches. In 2008 I attended my first writer’s conference. My sister, Maureen and her daughter (my niece) Lauren, traveled with me. I had been working through the plot of Misconceptions, but the Lord gave me a different book to write, one that focused on forgiveness. The following summer, my sister was killed by a driver under the influence of marijuana. All of the scriptures I studied on forgiveness helped me to work through that difficult time.

God is so good to minister to us that way. I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my brother to a car accident many years ago. You don’t stop missing them.

Do you have any scriptures you’d like to share that have inspired you?

Many verses inspire me, I usually have one for each novel. The verse that I use for Misconceptions is Psalm 33:11 “But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

What would you like to tell us about your latest release, Misconceptions?

While attending a writing conference, the speaker, James Scott Bell said something that really resonated with me. “Write about something that makes you want to throw a chair out the window.” For me, that issue is the value of life. All life….from the preborn all the way up through our senior citizens. The theme of Misconceptions is the value of life. It’s my prayer that my readers will realize just how precious all life is to the Lord.

Book Description:

It’s mysterious. And she’s too curious.

In this pro-life Christian romantic suspense novel, it’s the near future. Dominique, an investigative TV news reporter, is sent to solve the mystery: why the birthrate in the United States has dropped precipitously … everywhere except a few small pockets. Undercover at an Ohio hospital, she sidesteps oddly incompetent police and finds herself in a stew of kidnappings and murder threats.

Her investigation takes a radical turn when she meets Dr. Joseph Armstrong. His attention makes her heart flutter, but his theory about the birth rate decline makes her heart stutter. It’s too strange to even consider, but it’s her only lead. Is it romance, or a mismatch?

Dominique follows the trail into the dangerous underworld of black-market adoptions as Joe and his family are unwittingly drawn into the web of deceit and murder. And when the truth comes out, more than just her story is on the line.

Hi, Marilyn! Your comment is truly appreciated. Yes, I think about the times Jesus conveyed
truth through a story or parable. These things definitely help us connect with the truth at
a heartfelt, and very human emotional level. Thank you for sharing your point of view. It’s
always lovely to have you visit!
